If you are looking for a luxury oasis in Thailand, look no further than the Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River. This urban sanctuary is the epitome of world-class luxury, modern design, and exceptional Thai hospitality. Located on the Chao Phraya River, the Four Seasons offers riverside tranquility with easy access to Bangkok’s vibrant city life.

On our way home from Bhutan, we had a stopover in Bangkok and were looking for a luxury hotel to relax at before we headed back to Los Angeles. What we thought would be a few non-descript down days turned into one of my favorite parts of our trip. I knew the minute we walked into the Four Seasons Bangkok that we made the right decision to stay at this property. I was sorry to leave after three nights.

We arrived on our 20th wedding anniversary, and the hotel staff, everyone from the reservation team to the hotel concierge to the restaurant waitresses, went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. We experienced five-star-plus service at this low-key yet elegant hotel.

If you’re overwhelmed by Bangkok’s busy streets and, as I did, need a retreat, the Four Seasons offers a peaceful escape without sacrificing access to the city’s crowded and unrelenting city life. Rarely can a hotel so easily cater to honeymooners, business travelers, and families without sacrificing exceptional service, design, and culinary offerings. After being a guest, it is easy to see why the Four Seasons is one of Bangkok’s top luxury hotels and has earned numerous accolades.

There are several five-star hotels in Bangkok. However, the Four Seasons Hotel’s enviable location on the Chao Phraya River in the Chao Phraya Estate development offers breathtaking views and easy access to some of Bangkok’s key attractions, like The Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and the shopping haven of Iconsiam.

We took advantage of the free boat rides on the Four Seasons Hotel’s private luxurious boat that it shares with the Capella next door. From the hotel’s private dock, we traveled a few minutes to the transportation center, where it was easy to catch a boat to our next destination. Based on location alone, the Four Seasons ranks high on the list of luxury hotels in Bangkok.

As a side note, the Suvarnabhumi International Airport is about forty minutes away by car.

Airport Arrival Fast-Track Experience

The first time we arrived in Bangkok on our way to Paro in Bhutan, we used a VIP fast-track service to make our way through customs quickly. A fast-track representative met us at the gate and escorted us directly through customs. Had there been a line, this would have saved us hours. As I have heard, international arrivals can be a nightmare.

Since there was no line on our last flight through Bangkok, we opted to skip the fast-track arrival and went through the normal process. However, we passed rows and rows of corrals that were created for the onslaught of expected passengers. Luckily for us, we breezed through.

Airport Transportation to the Four Seasons

The Four Seasons provides seamless luxury from the moment you pass through customs. The hotel offers private airport pickup service in a luxury sedan or limousine, ensuring a smooth and comfortable journey to your riverfront retreat. Since it was our anniversary, we opted to arrange our airport transportation through the Four Seasons.

We met our Four Seasons Bangkok representative near the airport exit. The gentleman was easy to spot. He contacted our driver, and we headed out to meet our car – an S-Class Mercedes. As you can imagine, the car was extremely comfortable, and because we arrived after rush hour, we made it to the hotel quickly.

Arrival Experience at the Four Seasons Bangkok

When we arrived, we were immediately welcomed with cold towels and a drink before a hotel representative whisked us away to our hotel room. After we finished our drink, we were in our room within a matter of minutes. When we opened the door to our room, we were greeted with balloons and dessert as a happy anniversary gift. My parents were also kind enough to send us a bottle of wine to celebrate.

After we entered the room, our welcoming representative gave us a few facts about the hotel and showed us how to work the room controls. Given that the drapes are electronic, knowing how to use them was crucial.

Accommodations: Elegant Design and River Views

The Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River features 299 rooms and 366 private residences, including suites and river-view rooms, all designed to maximize comfort while embracing contemporary elegance. The rooms’ interiors are a blend of modern sophistication and Thai-inspired elements, featuring luxurious bedding, curated artwork, and floor-to-ceiling windows that offer panoramic views of either the river or the vibrant cityscape. The rooms are either in the four-story Palm Courtyard Building or in the twelve-story Cascade Building that overlooks the Chao Phraya River. Room types include the following:

  • Deluxe Rooms: Spacious and elegantly designed, perfect for solo travelers or couples.
  • Premier River-View Rooms: Featuring spectacular views of the Chao Phraya River, these rooms create a serene retreat. Some of these rooms even have balconies.
  • Suites: The suites offer expansive living spaces, private balconies, and personalized butler service. The Riverfront Penthouse (Presidential Suite), the most lavish suite at the Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok, is complete with three bedrooms, three bathrooms, unobstructed panoramic river views, and a private pool. The Riverfront Penthouse offers unrivaled luxury with a grand terrace, opulent furnishings, and an expansive floor plan that is over 4,840 square feet.

Our Deluxe Palm Court Room

We stayed in a Deluxe Palm Courtyard room overlooking the lap pool below. We stayed on the top floor, which is the third level. The Urban Wellness Centre is in the same building. The standout amenity in the room was the thirteen-plus high ceilings and corresponding floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Palm Court. The natural light streaming into the room and the high ceilings made the room feel large, open, and airy.

Another standout feature was the bed. The king-size bed was one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. Gary slept like a baby all three nights of our stay. Given that it is a rarity, I know the mattress played a significant part in his restful sleep.

The bathroom is accessible through two different sets of sliding barn doors. Once inside, the space offers a dual vanity sink, a free-standing bathtub, a separate toilet room, and a separate shower room with a rain shower head and a handheld shower head. The modern chic bathroom design is just another thoughtful piece of the hotel’s overall architecture.

In addition to the typical shower amenities, the bathroom also had amenities like a toothbrush kit and a shaving kit. Both came in handy as I left my toothbrush in Paro, Bhutan, and Gary’s razor died. It was nice that these amenities were already in the room, and we didn’t have to call down to ask for them.

I also appreciated the USB/C charging stations in the room. I was able to use them instead of having to plug in a power converter. The superior rooms are one of the reasons that the Four Seasons is one of the best hotels in Bangkok.

Exquisite Dining: A Culinary Journey

Dining at the Four Seasons Bangkok is a world-class experience, featuring an array of options from Michelin-starred restaurants to vibrant social spaces.

Dinner at Riva del Fiume Ristorante

Riva del Fiume Ristorante is a riverside Italian gem offering both indoor and alfresco dining, where guests can indulge in handcrafted pasta and seafood while enjoying stunning river views.

The Chef created a delicious six course-tasting menu specifically for us, taking into account our dietary restrictions and food preferences. We enjoyed course after course of mouth-watering delights. My tastebuds danced on my tongue as I devoured every morsel. It had been some time since I had had an indulgent dinner like this one, and I savored every bite.

Dessert was a feast in itself. As it was our anniversary weekend, the pastry chef created a bevy of desserts, one better than the next. We unabashedly enjoyed every dessert!

During dinner, we were even treated to two fireworks shows on the river. We, and any room facing the river, had an epic view of the show. We oohed and awed in delight between courses.

For those interested in a more traditional Italian meal, diners can enjoy an a la carte Italian menu.

Breakfast at Riva del Fiume Ristorante

Riva restaurant patio overlooking the Chao Praya River

Every morning, we headed to Riva for an incredible breakfast buffet spread. The Four Seasons buffet is like no other.  Room after room was filled with breakfast foods ranging from traditional egg options to breakfast pastries and sweets, breads, cheeses, dumplings, noodles, miso soup, and the list goes on and on. If the buffet isn’t enough to satisfy your appetite, there is also a breakfast menu from which you can order.

Our room included breakfast, so everything we ate and drank (non-alcoholic breakfast drinks) was included. I will admit, the first morning, I ate more than my fair share of offerings. I couldn’t help myself. I was like a moth to a flame, except my flame was every breakfast offering you could imagine. In the following days, I was able to rein in my gluttony so that I could enjoy other foods while out and about in Bangkok.

Even though it was warm, we opted to sit outside on Riva’s patio and enjoy the river view as we ate. The ceiling fans kept the temperature pleasant.

Kudos to the restaurant manager, who was smart enough to ensure guests had the same waitress or waiter each morning. Our waitress, Bowie, greeted us warmly. It was nice to see a smiling, familiar face and enjoy a pleasant conversation as she stopped by to check on us.

Yu Ting Yuan

If you are looking for Michelin-starred dining in Bangkok, then head to Yu Ting Yuan. This Michelin-starred Cantonese restaurant is a culinary gem, with an emphasis on fresh ingredients and masterful cooking. For those with an expansive pallet, opt for the Chef’s tasting menu.

BKK Social Club

Image courtesy Ken Seet / Four Seasons

We stopped at BKK Social Club twice during our stay. We celebrated our anniversary here after our flight from Bhutan and were able to have a drink and a snack before closing. The art deco bar is reminiscent of the twenties with a modern flair. The gold accents combined with the dark furniture create an elegant yet trendy vibe. The backlit bar behind the bartenders is an eye-catching, classy focal point.

BKK Social Club has won several awards, such as Asia’s 50 Best Bars List 2022, 2023, and 2024, and is one of Thailand’s highest-rated bars.

If BKK Social Club sounds familiar, then you may have even been to one of their pop-up events in the United States.

We tried several different cocktails on the extensive cocktail list. While they looked pretty, the cocktails were a little sweet for my taste. But I guess anything is sweet when your go-to drink is tequila on the rocks.

I enjoyed the lobster tacos and ate way too many of the banana chips that came with our drinks.

Brasserie Palmier

Offering a casual yet chic atmosphere, this French brasserie focuses on seafood and bistro classics.

Café Madeleine

A quaint French bakery with artisanal pastries, coffee, and sandwiches, ideal for a relaxed break during the day.

Poolside

Mango sticky rice by the pool

While working on your tan, you can order drinks and food while at the pool. I opted for a cold coconut, and we enjoyed the sticky rice and mango.

Chao Phraya Terrace

Seasonally, the terrace along the Chao Phraya River is opened to provide diners exceptional views while they dine on flavorful Thai cuisine.

Lobby Lounge

Enjoy indoor-outdoor seating at the hub of the hotel while you enjoy a bite to eat, a drink, or afternoon tea.

Pool and Outdoor Spaces

Pool and lounges at Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River

A luxury hotel in Bangkok would not be complete without a gorgeous pool area.  The Four Seasons Bangkok does not disappoint. There are two outdoor infinity pools overlooking the Chao Praya River.

We relaxed on a lounge chair, enjoyed the river view, and jumped in the pool to the cool water on our sun-kissed skin.

There is also a large outdoor space that runs over a lily pond between the hotel and the pool area, which leads guests past BKK Social Club and Riva.

Wellness: The Spa at Four Seasons

The Urban Wellness Centre (the Four Seasons spa in Bangkok) is a sanctuary of tranquility, offering a range of signature treatments that fuse modern techniques with ancient Thai wellness traditions. The spa includes private treatment rooms, an expansive couples treatment suite complete with two massage tables, a day bed couch, a bathroom, a shower, and a large soaking tub.

Hotel and spa guests can relax their muscles in the vitality pool or enjoy a steam before your treatment.

Gary and I treated ourselves to a couples massage. After all, Bangkok spa experiences are a must-do in Thailand. When we checked in, we were given towels and tea to set the mood for our massage. After the check-in process, we were shown a beautiful spa suite for our treatments. We used the private changing area in the spa suite and put on the most comfortable spa robes. The warmth of the soft robe against my skin was delightful. Had I not been excited for my massage, I could have lounged in the comfort of the robe all day.

Signature Spa Treatments

Luxury spa treatments in Bangkok are true bliss, like the signature treatments such as:

Bespoke Thai Massage

Gary opted for a 90-minute Thai massage. According to him, the masseuse used traditional Thai massage techniques, including stretching and focusing on pressure points, but also incorporated modern deep tissue into the massage.  My eyes were closed while I enjoyed my massage!

The Siam (Reflexology)

Your treatment begins with an herbal foot soak and mask. As the mask is set, a pressure-point head, neck, and face massage is performed, followed by traditional Thai foot reflexology.

I had a 90-minute reflexology massage, and it is hands down one of the best reflexology massages I have ever had. My feet were sore after trekking in Bhutan, hiking to the Tiger’s Nest, and sightseeing in Bangkok. The traditional reflexology massage was exactly what I needed. I was so relaxed that I think I may have dozed off for a few minutes.

Four Seasons Blood Diamond Facial

A facial treatment that revitalizes dull skin and restores natural youthfulness utilizing innovative and transformative Diamond Peptides and Arabinogalactans, which encourages the skin to behave as it did in its youth.

A spa treatment at the Urban Wellness Centre is a luxurious Bangkok experience you don’t want to miss.

Spa Treatment Enhancements

After a massage, you might add one of the enhancements, such as:

  • Celluma Express Light Facial
  • Body Cupping
  • Mini Facial
  • Coconut Hair Wrap

  • Head & Scalp Treatment

Art at the Four Seasons Bangkok

The hotel itself is a work of art.  From the cascading waterfalls that empty into a lily pond at the entrance to the hotel to the brightly colored orchids flowing throughout the resort to the artwork in the lobby, art is everywhere at this hotel.

In addition, there is also an Art Space (gallery) open to the public.

Kids’ Club

If you are staying with little ones at the hotel but want a few hours to yourself, opt for the Kids’ Club. I saw the kids playing, and they looked like they were having fun while they created bubbles with the assistance of the Kids’ Club staff.  Babysitting services are also available.

Awards and Recognition

The Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok has earned multiple accolades, such as:

  • Conde Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Award

The hotel’s riverside location and elegant venues make it a perfect choice for weddings, events, and corporate functions. From grand ballrooms to intimate outdoor terraces, the hotel offers bespoke event planning services. The Four Seasons Ballroom, with its stunning floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the river, provides a magical backdrop for weddings and large events.

Exploring Bangkok: A Cultural Immersion

The hotel is ideally located to explore some of Bangkok’s most famous attractions. The Grand Palace, Wat Arun, and Iconsiam are all easily accessible. While in Bangkok, you might enjoy the following tours

  • Jim Thompson House
  • Chinatown
  • Bangkok’s charming canals
  • Private tour  – visit ancient temples and bustling street-food markets before sailing back to the Four Seasons Bangkok by traditional long-tail boat.

Four Seasons Airport Drop-Off Experience

We were sad to leave, but it was time. We used the Four Seasons transportation service to get back to the airport. The experience was worth the money. The same driver drove us in an S-Class Mercedes to the airport. However, once we were dropped off, the Four Seasons airport representative went the extra mile to ensure we had a smooth experience. He ushered us to the airline check-in line. Since we were flying business class, the check-in process was quick. Otherwise, there was a considerable check-in line.

After check-in, we were escorted to the security gate. There was a mass of people and luggage to navigate, and being with someone who knew the airport made the experience seamless. Yes, we could have figured it out ourselves, but our Four Seasons representative made the whole experience so much easier.

Airport Fast-Track Departure

If you are not flying business class, consider purchasing the fast-track departure pass. It takes you through the same line used by business class passengers where we breezed through security. Luxury travel in Thailand is not complete without a fast-track departure.

November to February offers cooler weather and fewer rainy days.

Three nights and four days is the right amount of time to spend in Bangkok, giving you time to check out different neighborhoods and cultural sites and take a tour or two without feeling like you are rushing.

Goodness what a perfect way to celebrate your anniversary – congratulations!

The Four Seasons Bangkok sounds incredible – I think it is the small things (like ensuring you have the same waitress for breakfast each day), and the big things like a super comfy bed – it all sounds wonderful.

Such a fantastic review of the Four Seasons Bangkok! Your post really captures the elegance and charm of the hotel. It’s great to hear about the different dining options and the spa experience—makes it so easy to imagine unwinding there after a day of exploring the city. I love that they have given such thought as to ensure you have the same server for breakfast every day! Such a thoughtful gesture and one I would definitely appreciate.
