From the moment I arrived at The St. Regis Punta Mita, I knew I picked the perfect place for a getaway.  As you drive past the gatehouse, you are immediately surrounded by a sea of palm trees, giving you that priceless vacation feeling.  Once you pass the grove of palm trees, you drive through the exclusive community of Punta Mita.  The landscape throughout the community is so lush that its nickname is Jurassic Park.

As I stepped out of the car and looked around, I knew we were in for a memorable vacation.  The St. Regis Punta Mita was better than I remembered.  The sheer beauty of the resort, combined with their excellent service, proved to be a terrific four-night, five-day stay.

Where is Punta Mita?

Before leaving for our vacation, several friends asked where we were going.  I realized that many people are not familiar with the town of Punta de Mita and the luxurious 1,500-acre resort and private gated residential community of Punta Mita.  I am happy to spill the beans and let you in on this fabulous secret.  Punta Mita is in Mexico and about a 45-minute drive from the Puerto Vallarta International Airport, and Puerto Vallarta is a short three-hour direct flight from Los Angeles International Airport.

Located on the Bahia de Banderas in Nayarit, Punta Mita has gained notoriety for its luxurious and uber-exclusive gated community.  Behind the gates, you will find The St. Regis Punta Mita, the Four Seasons Resort, and multiple high-end housing developments that cater to celebrities, politicians, athletes, and, well, anyone that can afford the steep price tag.

We had a fabulous stay at The St. Regis Punta Mita, and I am excited to share my top ten list of reasons to book your next vacation at The St. Regis Punta Mita.

1. The St. Regis Punta Mita Property is Gorgeous

The beach at The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort

The St. Regis Punta Mita Hotel Grounds

Set on 22-acres inside the extraordinary gated community of Punta Mita, The St. Regis is the perfect place to relax, disconnect, and reconnect with loved ones.  The Five Diamond luxurious property is set on a secluded peninsula giving guests private access to a manicured beach and gentle warm water.  (Surfing enthusiasts can find a surf break just around the corner).  Aside from the beach, The St. Regis Punta Mita offers guests a wide range of activities, so you don’t have to leave.   A few standout features include:

  • three pools (including an adult pool)
  • two Jack Nicklaus Signature designed golf courses with magnificent ocean views
  • a tennis center that includes five hard courts and five synthetic grass courts that are available day or night
  • almost 4 miles of jogging/bike trails, and
  • a fitness center

Guests can relax at the Remède Spa and enjoy a spa treatment in a tranquil lush surrounding.

2.  The St. Regis Punta Mita Hotel Rooms Are Luxurious

Guest room at The St. Regis Punta Mita

I love The St. Regis Punta Mita’s thoughtfully designed hotel rooms that incorporate the natural environment (ocean views and serene gardens) while providing guests privacy.  The guestrooms are spread out across the sprawling property giving guests the feeling that the hotel is not crowded even when it is full.  The St. Regis Punta Mita has 33 casitas, 89 deluxe rooms, 70 deluxe suites, and 5 beachfront villas with a separate beach pool.

We stayed in a deluxe king ocean view room, which was perfect for us. The room itself is understated and melds perfectly with the surroundings while providing guests with the luxury they expect at a St. Regis property.

When we arrived in our room, there was a beautiful display of snacks, desserts, and a bottle of wine waiting for us. The room even had happy birthday balloons for my husband.

St. Regis Punta Mita guestroom bathrooms

When it comes to assessing a luxury property, one of the things I always consider is the bathroom.  My biggest pet peeve is the tub/shower combo.  I am not a fan of this duo.  However, at The St. Regis Punta Mita, the bathrooms are almost as big as the room.  The bathroom includes a wet room with an oversized tub and a separate indoor shower.  The wet room has two French doors that open out to an outdoor shower.  I liked the outdoor shower so much that I never took a shower inside.  The bathroom is also spacious, giving guests ample counter space with a dual vanity sink and room for makeup and toiletries.

St. Regis Punta Mita in-room amenities

The in-room amenities include bath products by Remède, the same sake of The St. Regis Punta Mita spa.  Other in-room amenities include an ihome® docking station, high-speed wireless Internet access, LED television with a media player, digital in-room movie system for entertainment, a safe, and a walk-in closet, and in our case, a balcony.

3. Exceptional Butler and Concierge Service at the St. Regis Punta Mita

The St. Regis Punta Mita offers guests unparalleled service.  From the time I booked our stay and throughout our vacation, The St. Regis staff went out of their way to make our vacation an outstanding experience.

Before our trip, I reached out to the Concierge to assist with booking a special birthday celebration dinner.  The Concierge was incredibly helpful and prompt with responding to my inquires.  Planning the birthday dinner (see the private barbeque dinner discussion below) and arranging our transportation was a breeze.

Once we arrived, we were quickly greeted and whisked away to our own check-in area.  We opted to complete our check-in process outside, where we enjoyed our complimentary margaritas and the ocean view.

The St. Regis Butler Service Program

Once we were at The St. Regis Punta Mita, our Butlers (yes, two Butlers) provided excellent service.  This was the first time I took advantage of the Butler program, and the service exceeded all expectations.  We were assigned two Butlers (someone for the day shift and a separate person for the evening shift).  Our Butlers helped me schedule transportation within the community to the beach club and getting to and from Sayulita. They were also extremely helpful in booking onsite activities, getting our COVID test appointments, and coordinating our transportation to Monkey Mountain.  We communicated via text, making a request super simple.

Examples of guest requests

Although we did not take advantage of every service offered, here is a snapshot of other common requests:

  • Garment pressing
  • Packing/unpacking
  • Morning beverage service. You can schedule fresh coffee and tea delivered to your room each morning.  We had a slight miscommunication about our morning beverage service, so as a tip, make sure you inform your Butler you want a beverage daily if that is your preference.  There is also coffee and tea available in the morning in the main building for all guests.
  • Personalized honor bar
  • Arranging activities both on and off the hotel grounds
  • E-butler service for when you are off the property
  • Procuring a last-minute gift

Butler service motto

The St. Regis Butler program prides itself on its ability to satisfy guest requests 24/7. Their motto is “no request is too small or unattainable no matter what the hour of the day.  The St. Regis Butler Service ensures that unique preferences are understood and addressed flawlessly.”

4. Remède Spa at The St. Regis Punta Mita Spa

Relax and indulge in serenity at Remède Spa.  Tranquility rushes over you as you enter this luxury retreat.  With a focus on wellness, Remède Spa promotes balance and inspires guests to unplug from the digital world, seek inner peace, and connect with those around you.

Remède Spa provides exceptional experiences for its guests.  The tranquil Palapas and heavenly gardens set the stage for a relaxing and rejuvenating experience.  Treatments at Remède Spa are unique and can even be customized.  I had a 90-minute customized massage that was one of the best massages I have ever had.  My shoulders felt relaxed, and the knots that had been building during COVID were finally washed away.

Remède Spa Options

Guests have the option of a private treatment room, or you may have a personalized treatment in your guestroom. The spa also has a luxury suite.

Guests can choose from traditional or innovative treatments such as the:

  • neurosedative massage with lavender and jade stones designed to address burnout for those who lead a stressful, high-pressure lifestyle
  • chakra healing sessions with Tibetan singing bowls to help calm the mind
  • diamond cocoon skin treatment detoxifies, strengthens, and shields the skin against pollution and continuous exposure to blue light.

Luxury awaits you at the Remède Spa, where you can enjoy a transformative experience.  The spa also sells cute beach bags and other fun spa-related products.

When you book your appointment, ask if there are any specials.  During our visit, the special was a complimentary foot soak/scrub with a massage.  The warm scrub was placed on my feet to soak for the second half of my massage, and it was so relaxing.

5. Private BBQ  Dinner on the Beach

The incredible beach barbeque setting

Hands down, my favorite dining experience at The St. Regis Punta Mita was the private barbecue celebration we had on the beach. A table for four (we traveled with friends) was set by itself on the beach positioned to watch the sunset over the water.  The intimate ambiance with soft lighting and ocean sounds created the perfect backdrop for our birthday celebration.

The Food!

Now, to the food!  Let me start by saying WOW. The food was fantastic and plentiful would be an understatement.  We started with several appetizers, including guacamole, ceviche, salsa, and a salad.  We were warned not to fill up on appetizers because dinner would be an experience not to be missed.

BBQ beach setup with chef at The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort

A barbecue is set up just for your party on the beach, and your food is masterly prepared by your personal chef.  The chef served perfectly grilled shrimp, chicken, ribeye, prime rib, potatoes, vegetables, and more.  There was so much food; there was no way we could eat it all.  And, there was more to come.  For dessert, The St. Regis Punta Mita provided us with chocolate cake in addition to the four desserts scheduled to come with our dinner.

Our waiter recognized we could not eat anymore and was kind enough to box up our dessert.  We ate the mini tarts and pies the next day.  May I say, YUM, they were so good!

S’mores on the beach!

After our sunset dinner and dessert, we migrated to the day beds set out around a bonfire.  As a fun surprise, there was a s’mores kit too!  We roasted marshmallows, listened to the waves gently lapping the shore, stared up at the stars overhead, and watched the lightning in the distance.

The barbeque dinner was barefoot luxury at its best and an experience I will never forget!

If you are looking for a memorable dining option while visiting The St. Regis Punta Mita, I highly recommend the private beach dinner.  The intimate dinners are a popular activity, and there is limited space.  So, I would suggest making a reservation in advance to make sure you can enjoy this incredible experience.

6.  The St. Regis Punta Mita Restaurants Offer Several Unique Dining Options

The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort offers a wide variety of restaurants and bars, each with a unique twist.

Sea Breeze Restaurant & Bar

Latin American-inspired dishes reign supreme at Sea Breeze Restaurant and Bar.  Enjoy the local flavors and locally grown organic produce that are sure to satisfy your hungry palate.  On our first night, we ate at Sea Breeze and enjoyed the stunning sunset view as well as the delicious food.  The highlight for me was the Himalayan salt brick filet mignon dinner (my friend ordered this, and I tried it) and watching another friend try the cricket and worm dried concoction with his mezcal.

Mezcal accouterments at Sea Breeze Restaurant at The St. Regis Punta Mita

The filet was tasty, and the presentation was fun too. Although a little pricey, the meal is large enough to share.  Three of us shared the Himalayan salt brick dinner and one other entree and it was more than enough food.

Carolina

Carolina is the only AAA Five Diamond Award dining experience in Punta de Mita.  The menu draws inspiration from modern Mexican cuisine and showcases the finest and freshest ingredients.  I did not get a chance to eat at Carolina, but hopefully, I will try it on my next visit.

Las Marietas Restaurant & Bar

Unfortunately, Las Marietas Restaurant & Bar was closed during our visit.  However, the restaurant usually offers authentic Mexican and international meals.

Mita Mary Boat Bar & Bistro

We enjoyed Mita Mary Boat Bar & Bistro and believe it is one the best restaurants in Punta Mita on the beach.

I would suggest making a reservation at Mita Mary’s for dinner.  You can watch the sunset over the water with your toes in the sand and a drink in your hand.  Reserve a front-row table, so you have an unobstructed view of the sunset.

In-room dining at The St. Regis Punta Mita

For those who prefer to dine in their rooms, The St. Regis Punta Mita has you covered.  The St. Regis Punta Mita caters to all dietary needs.  The St. Regis was kind enough to send over a few birthday celebration snacks and desserts, and everything was terrific!

Catch of the day

The St. Regis Punta Mita offers guests a catch of the day.  A boat arrives on the beach with the freshly caught fish.  Guests are invited to select a fresh catch for lunch or dinner.  On our last visit, we did the fresh catch experience.  The experience was a little hooky, and I don’t think it was worth the extra price tag.  That being said, the fish was delicious.

Afternoon Tea

Afternoon tea is a treasured tradition at The St. Regis.  I love afternoon tea and get excited about the cute little tea sandwiches, scones, and champagne.  I don’t know why I enjoy afternoon tea so much, but I do.  We were so busy having fun that we didn’t get a chance to relax and take part in the afternoon tea tradition.  But, this leaves something for me to try on my next visit!

7.  There are Numerous Fun-Filled Activities at the Hotel to Keep You Busy

In addition to the golf and tennis courses and the Remède Spa, there are several other activities to keep guests entertained.  For example, there is a

  • The champagne ritual dating back to 1904 at each of the St. Regis properties worldwide. I sabered a bottle of champagne at The St. Regis Hong Kong!
  • Full Moon Beach Party
  • Cooking Classes
  • Mixology Classes
  • Gym / yoga / Pilates are available for guests.  Due to COVID, guests need to make a reservation for the gym.  The amount of guests in the gym at one time is strictly regulated as part of The St. Regis Punta Mita’s commitment to clean.  Private yoga and Pilates lessons are also available by reservation only.
  • Vallarta Adventures and Spearmex are the onsite activity companies that offer every adventure you can think of doing on your vacation.
  • Go for a bike ride.

Our Adventures

We used Vallarta Adventures for a local surf and snorkeling luxury adventure.  The boat was terrific!

It could hold more than 20 people, but most of the time, there were only four of us, plus three crew members.  The boat was fast, making it easy to get to and from surf breaks and the Marietas Islands!  On our last visit to Punta Mita, we rented a panga boat that did not compare in comfort, size, or speed to the boat used by Vallarta Adventures.

The service was top notch too.  You didn’t have to lift a finger if you didn’t want to.  The staff takes care of everything for you. Our guide knew so much about the area and had a real passion for marine and birdlife.  You could feel our guide’s excitement as he told us about the different species of birds and the history of the Marietas Islands.  Our captain was fantastic too.  He was able to get us into tight nooks and crannies for the best views.

Surf_boards_

For the surf adventure, the guys were able to take the boat to different spots searching for the best surf break.  Since my husband and his friend are experienced surfers, they used a surf guide instead of a surf instructor.  Their surf guide helped spot waves, explained how they break in certain areas and pointed out potential hazards like underwater rocks and reefs.

Some of the adventures can be pricey because they are geared toward private parties.  There are several tours and different operators available if you prefer to book an adventure on your own.

8.  Surfing at The St. Regis Punta Mita

The St. Regis Punta Mita is close to several surf breaks making it an excellent hotel for surfers.  My husband met several other guests in the lineup.  Punta Mita is a popular destination for surfing.  Here is a breakdown of the breaks closest to The St. Regis Punta Mita:

Monuments

Directly in front of the family pool, there is a break called Monuments.  During our visit, the west-facing break was small, but you could see surfers out there every day enjoying themselves.

La Bahia

Guests can walk across the rocky shore about a ½ mile from The St. Regis Punta Mita for one of the most consistent surf breaks in the area.  Please note, the only way to access La Bahia for guests is either the rocky walk or by boat.

La Bahia is a reef break good for shortboards. The predominately right-hand break works with most tides and is best in the morning.

You NEED booties or at least some kind of footwear to walk to this break.  The half-mile walk is over sharp jagged rocks that will tear up your feet.  My husband brought booties and forgot to wear them on the first day, and his feet got all messed up.  Even a week later, my husband was still pulling thorns out of his feet.

Another option is to book a surf safari through Vallarta Adventures so you can check out lots of different breaks. Vallarta Adventures picks you up on the beach in front of the Sea Breeze restaurant at The St. Regis Punta Mita!

El Faro

The right-hand point break can offer long rides with a six-foot-plus north swell.  El Faro is accessible by boat.

La Lancha

If you are staying at The St. Regis Punta Mita, you have access to El Surf Club at La Lancha.  There are two-point breaks and a beach break in front of El Surf Club. The surf break is popular, especially for lessons, because the break is mellow and good for longboards.  The surf is consistent and works with most swell.

Surfing Carrying a surf board at El Surf Club in Punta Mita
Lounge chairs on la lancha beach at the surf club in punta mita

La Lancha is a public beach, but El Surf Club is only for Punta Mita residents and hotel guests. It’s about a 15-minute drive from The St. Regis Punta Mita to El Surf Club, all within the gates. Your Butler can arrange transportation for you.

Burros

Access to Burros is next to the Palladium hotel.  The reef break is primarily a right, and its sweet spot is low tide with a south swell.  Burros can get crowded, but it is supposed to be a fun break.

Sayulita

About thirty minutes from The St. Regis (by car) is the popular town of Sayulita.  The surf break is a beginner beach break and also offers a right and left point break. Visitors come to take surf lessons here, and there are a couple of companies in town that offer lessons.  The water is often crowded, and there is a runoff right near the break, making the water look dirty.  This may have been because of the rain during our visit.  For me, I enjoyed the visit to Sayulita for the shopping and dining, but I would skip the surfing here, especially if you are not a beginner.  You might opt to surf La Bahia or La Lancha instead.

There are several additional surf breaks in the area.  WildMex (a surf school) has a great breakdown of the different breaks.

As a head’s up, Surfline was not accurate during our stay and is notoriously wrong in this area.  The six to seven foot swell never materialized. Plus, the swell direction was off, and the waves were much, much smaller than predicted.

9. St. Regis Punta Mita Golf Experience

Ariel picture of Tail of a Whale Golf Hole at the st. regis punta mita
Image provided courtesy of The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort

The St. Regis Punta Mita boasts 36-holes at the two Jack Nicklaus Signature-designed golf courses, which both made the list of the Best Golf Courses in Mexico. I am not a golfer, but I did get a chance to see a few people playing the course as we rode by on our bikes.  I don’t know much about golf, but the scenery is outstanding.

Tail of the Whale

The golf courses are on a 380-acre peninsula with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and the gorgeous Banderas Bay, including the famous “Tail of the Whale” hole – the only natural ocean island green in the world.  Although the hole can only be played at low tide, it would be incredibly memorable to tee off from land and sink your golf ball over the ocean.

Golf amenities

In addition to the world-renowned golf courses, The St. Regis Punta Mita also offers a clubhouse, rentals, lessons, a golf academy for players of all levels, a driving range, putting green, and a program for juniors.

10. There is a Pool for Everyone at The St. Regis Punta Mita

Sea Breeze Pool at the st. regis punta mita
Family pool at The St. Regis Punta Mita

Infinity Edge Adult Pool

When staying at a luxury property, I usually search out the adult pool.  Since we do not have kids, we venture away from the family pools.  So, to have a pool reserved exclusively for adults is perfect for us.

Las Marietas Family Pool

The St. Regis Punta Mita has created a separate pool space for families.  The two-level family pool is heated and designed for guests traveling with children.  The infinity-edge adult is at the highest point at the resort and offers breathtaking beach views.

Sea Breeze Pool

I found myself spending the most amount of time at the Sea Breeze Pool.  The heated infinity-edge pool provides unobstructed views of the Pacific Ocean.  The pool temperature is ideal, and the scenery is gorgeous.

On this vacation, I spent just as much time at the pool as the beach.  The beach is pretty to look at and good for lounging, but it is not why we choose to stay at St. Regis Punta Mita.  The ocean is a little too rocky for me.  The St. Regis Punta Mita does an excellent job of creating a space for guests to enter the sea that is mostly rock-free (they can only do so much).  If you venture just a short distance from the Sea Breeze area, the ocean floor gets rocky.  The rocky ocean floor was not an issue for my husband, who loves to be in the water.  For me, I tried to enter the water in the manicured area to avoid walking over the super rocky ocean floor. However, the gentle waves and warm water still beckons beachgoers to take a dip or two.

Bonus Reasons to Stay at The St. Regis Punta Mita

Safety and Security are a Top Priority at the St. Regis Punta Mita

Guests passing through the gates of Punta Mita instantly know that this community takes security seriously.  The tall and intimidating gates are just the first sign of security in the complex.  As you drive through Punta Mita, you will see that there are even gated communities within this massive community.  The St. Regis has its own gates as well.  Punta Mita takes security so seriously that drivers have to leave their licenses at the initial guard stand, which they get back on the way out.

Even though the security is intense, you won’t notice or think twice about it as a guest.  Instead, you will feel safe and secure while enjoying your vacation.

COVID Procedures are in Place to Help Keep Guests Safe

I have traveled to several hotels during the pandemic, and I think the St. Regis Punta Mita has the best commitment to clean procedures.  Here are a few examples:

  • Every staff member wears a mask regardless of whether they are inside or outside.
  • COVID kits are in each guestroom and include two masks, antibacterial wipes, and hand sanitizer.
  • Daily housekeeping service, which is something I miss at the hotels in the United States.
  • At the spa, the technicians change their masks between guests, and if you would like, they will wear gloves while performing your spa treatment.
  • The St. Regis also can arrange for a COVID test if necessary for travel back to your home country. When you stay more than three nights and fly to the United States, the COVID test is free of charge.  (Note, this policy is subject to change.  You should check with The St. Regis Punta Mita if you plan to stay and need a COVID test).  The test takes place on hotel grounds making the 15–20-minute experience a non-event.

As a guest, you don’t have to wear a mask on the hotel grounds, except in a couple of designated places, like the COVID test center.  The lack of guest masks might normally be an issue for me but did not bother me because the hotel is so spacious that you are rarely close to another guest.  And, as a guest, you always have the option of wearing a mask.

For these reasons, The St. Regis Punta Mita is a terrific choice when selecting a hotel based on their COVID procedures.

Access to Multiple Beach Clubs Within the Punta Mita Community

Even though the grounds at The St. Regis Punta Mita are gorgeous, guests sometimes want to venture out and see something different.  As a guest of The St. Regis Punta Mita, you have access to several beach clubs within the Punta Mita community.

El Surf Club

El Surf Club at La Lancha is an outdoor super chill space for you to relax.  The service at El Surf Club is also fantastic and maybe a little over the top.  You can have your board waxed for you, carried to the water, and when you get out, there is someone to help bring your board the short distance to the beach club.  The cute outdoor space was fun for lunch and a way to mix up your day without leaving the Punta Mita community.  The surf break is also well known.

Sofi Beach Club

On our last visit, we had dinner at the Sofi Beach Club.  It has been a while since I’ve been there, but I still remember having a wonderful dinner on the beach overlooking the water.

Additional Beach Clubs

There are two beach clubs on the Pacific Ocean Side:  The Sea Breeze at The St. Regis and the Pacifico Beach Club near the Four Seasons.  The Kupuri Beach Club is on Litibu Bay.  We did not get over to the Pacifico or Kupuri Beach Clubs, but it gives us something to check out the next time we visit.

You need a reservation for the beach clubs (except Sea Breeze since it’s at The St. Regis).  We needed to make a reservation at El Surf Club 24 hours in advance.

The Takeaway Trom My Stay At The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort

Our visit to The St. Regis Punta Mita was so fabulous that I plan to stay just a little longer next time I visit.  While the four-night stay was terrific, I wish I had one extra day to enjoy the property. A five-night, six-day stay would be perfect!  That way, you get a chance to enjoy all the beautiful amenities at the resort, plus some time to explore Riviera Nayarit.

When you book your stay, make sure you check out the available packages to help you relax, disconnect, and reconnect with loved ones.

This hotel looks fantastic and so does the spa. What a beautiful place. So helpful they can assist with booking your covid tests too, that’s the one thing I’m nervous about traveling, having to figure out how to get those when you’re somewhere new. I would definitely stay here, even more so now you mentioned the nickname, Jurassic Park since that’s one of my favorite movies
