Where is Punta Mita?
Punta Mita is a 1,500-acre guard gated community in Punta de Mita, Mexico, just forty-five minutes north of the Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR). The Punta Mita complex contains over fifteen different communities, plus The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort and the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita.
What is there to do in Punta Mita?
Similar to any beach town, Punta Mita offers a plethora of things to do, such as surfing, standup paddleboarding, hiking, relaxing at the spa, sunbathing, golfing, resort living, snorkeling, and so much more.
Why is Punta Mita special?
Punta Mita is on Banderas Bay in Riveria Nayarit, known as the Emerald Coast – where the green Sierra Madre Mountains meet the blue coast. The exquisite retreat offers discerning travelers an unforgettable experience that blends world-class amenities with the charm of Mexican culture, all set against the backdrop of the region’s breathtaking natural beauty.
Once inside the highly secure grounds of Punta Mita, you will feel as if you have been transported to another world. As you drive down the road, speed bumps made of cobblestones remind you to slow down, not just while driving but in life. The tropical landscape immediately sends signals to your brain that you are on vacation and it’s time to relax.
Instead of cars, most people drive golf carts. The passengers look like they have no care in the world. It’s as if they are kids again. Whether they just spent the day on one of the two Jack-Nicklaus designed golf courses or are coming back from a beach club or a restaurant where you can eat with your feet in the sand, all you see are bright smiles and hear their contagious laughs. Everyone is happy. And why shouldn’t they be? They are in paradise.

Explore the Best Five-Star Hotels in Punta Mita for a Luxurious Stay
Inside the gates are a few five-star resorts in Punta Mita: The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort, the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, and Naviva, A Four Seasons Resort. Each is special.
The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort
The high-end St. Regis Punta Mita Resort overlooks the calm waters of Banderas Bay. Set on 22 acres, the 120-room resort blends contemporary and Mexican elements to create an ambiance exuding refined elegance in an understated yet luxurious manner.
Reasons to Stay
As I discuss in my detailed blog post dedicated to The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort, it recently underwent a $45+ million beautification project that focused on upgrading rooms, suites, and common areas, making it one of the best places to stay in Punta Mita.
The wide-scale renovation project gave the guestrooms and suites a facelift, and new furnishings and common areas were upgraded. The main pool was transformed into a modern and luxurious area where guests can relax while they take in the unobstructed ocean views, and several restaurants and the spa were transformed into modern spaces.
The layout of the guest rooms at The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort is unique in that they are housed in numerous low-lying buildings. Therefore, you don’t need an elevator to get to your room, nor do you need to walk down a corridor. Instead, interconnected outdoor pathways throughout the tropical resort lead you to your room.
Pro Tip: The ocean view rooms are worth the extra money. There is nothing like sitting on your balcony in the morning drinking your coffee while you contemplate the toughest decisions of the day: should I visit the spa, relax on the beach, or do both?
Exceptional Service and Adventure Awaits
A hallmark of this resort is the impeccable service The St. Regis brand is known for. Butlers are on call 24 hours a day to make sure your every whim and need is met. Whether you call or text your butler with a request, it is handled quickly and efficiently.
The resort boasts a variety of world-class amenities, including access to two Jack Nicklaus Signature golf courses, the acclaimed Remède Spa, and gourmet dining options that range from an elegant restaurant to the casual, oceanfront Mita Mary’s.
Punta Mita Adventures, located on-site, can set you up with any activity. We have used Punta Mita Adventures for surf lessons, a surf guide with a private boat, and snorkeling adventures. But you can also use Viator for a variety of activities.
We have stayed at The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort several times, and each time, I dread leaving because our stay was so wonderful.
One of the most memorable experiences was a private beach barbeque at sunset. From the beach setup to the food, service, and views, it was an incredible evening that I won’t forget. I highly recommend this experience. You can read more about it in my blog post about The. St. Regis Punta Mita Resort.
Know Before You Go
When I swim in the ocean at The St. Regis, I prefer to wear water shoes to navigate the rocky ocean floor. The lightweight shoes make it easy for me to walk into the water and go for a swim. The shoes have holes that let the water drain, and they come in multiple colors!
The Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita
You can relax and indulge while staying at the Four Seasons Resort in Punta Mita. You never have to leave the property, although I highly suggest you get out and try one of the delicious restaurants in and around Punta Mita.
This secluded paradise offers guests an unparalleled blend of elegance and natural beauty, with 177 rooms and suites that showcase Mexican-inspired design and breathtaking ocean views. The resort is also home to twenty-two villas, seven residences, and three beach homes.
Reasons to Stay
Similar to The St. Regis, the Four Seasons guests also have access to two Jack Nicklaus-designed golf courses, a private beach, a top-notch spa, and gourmet dining options.
Guests can relax by the infinity pools, take part in water sports, or explore the rich local culture with unique curated experiences like tequila tasting and cultural tours. The Four Seasons’ commitment to personalized service is evident in every detail, from the attentive staff to the exclusive amenities. The resort is also home to two secluded beaches, the adults-only Tamai Pool and the infinity-edge Nuna Pool that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. Plus, there are fun pool amenities like the sunglass doctor, afternoon treats, an Evian spritz, and chilled towels, which would be handy on a hot day.
Whether you’re seeking relaxation, adventure, or a bit of both, the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita offers a luxurious and unforgettable getaway in one of Mexico’s most stunning coastal regions.
Know Before You Go
The rooms at the Four Seasons are housed in a central building. To reach your room, you will need to take an elevator and walk down a corridor.
Naviva, A Four Seasons Resort
For those looking for a more boutique Four Seasons experience, Naviva is for you. This adult-only Punta Mita hotel features fifteen luxury tents on forty-eight acres of lush jungle set on the Pacific Ocean.
Reasons to Stay
The word tent doesn’t resemble anything close to camping at Naviva. The tents are permanent structures that include a king-size bed, a resort-style outdoor space with a fire pit, a luxury bathroom, a private plunge pool, and air conditioning.
The all-inclusive luxury Punta Mita hotel provides a unique way to experience Punta Mita through the lens of the Four Seasons in intimate beachfront surroundings. The all-inclusive pricing includes amenities such as food, drinks, a spa treatment, and daily activities such as guided hikes, sound healing, snorkeling safaris, or personal trainers. Naviva is the only all-inclusive hotel in Punta Mita.
Know Before You Go
The property is an adults-only resort. If you’re looking for a family friendly Four Seasons experience, opt for the resort over the tented camp.
Susurros del Corazón, Auberge Resorts Collection
While not within the gates of Punta Mita, Susurros del Corazón, Auberge Resorts Collection, is nearby in the City of Punta de Mita. The new luxury beach resort features fifty-nine rooms and suites and thirty villas, each with indoor-outdoor spaces. The use of natural materials combined with a contemporary Mexican style creates a relaxing environment.
Reasons to Stay
Susurros del Corazón features three pools, a 25,000-square-foot indoor/outdoor spa, four restaurants, a gym, access to golf courses, and tennis/pickleball courts.
While staying at Susurros del Corazón, enjoy activities such as surfing, snorkeling, yoga, hiking, exploring the tasting room, or signing up for a cooking class.
Know Before You Go
Susurros del Corazónis outside the gates of Punta Mita, which means that you can only enter the community if you make a dinner reservation at one of the Punta Mita restaurants, like Hector’s Kitchen, or arrange to play a round of golf.
Bahia Mita
If you are looking for a resort a little closer to the airport, Secrets Bahia Mita might be calling your name. The all-inclusive adults only beachfront hotel is known for its signature Unlimited-Luxury® experience. For a family friendly option, try Dreams Bahia Mita.
Top Luxury Vacation Rentals in Punta Mita for Your Next Escape
Many of the Punta Mita luxury rental properties also offer access to beach clubs and golf courses. Two of these fabulous properties, Condo Azul and Casa Familia, offer these benefits and so much more. These Punta Mita vacation rentals come with a chef and concierge services. Both make excellent romantic getaways in Punta Mita.
Condo Azul
Each time I stay at Condo Azul, I am reminded why I enjoy our stay so much. The three-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath single-story ocean view condo is like having a home away from home. The luxury condo is spacious, making it the perfect place for a family or a few couples to get away together.
Reasons to Stay
You can relax in the airy living/dining room or walk out onto the large balcony with an oversized plunge pool that overlooks Banderas Bay and Isla Marietas. It’s also a wonderful place to enjoy breakfast or watch the sunset. We even enjoyed massages on the deck.
The single-story layout is also ideal for families or older adults because you don’t have to use the stairs to access Condo Azul, and it’s easy to watch your kids. Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway or a family vacation, it is an incredible place to stay.
The concierge team does a wonderful job of making sure everything is set up for you when you arrive. During one of our visits, we filled out the preference sheet and requested specific snacks and food. Everything was there when we arrived, making our stay effortless.
Condo Azul has elevated the guest experience by providing several amenities, such as a chef for breakfast and lunch, a concierge to help you book your activities, the ability to have your pre-selected groceries waiting for you when you arrive, a golf cart, and access to Punta Mita’s multiple beach clubs and both golf courses.
We have stayed at Condo Azul a couple of times and are looking forward to another visit! I am hoping to bring my family or another couple or two on our next visit.
My detailed blog post about Condo Azul provides additional details that will leave you wanting to book your next Punta Mita vacation.
Casa Familia
Casa Familia is the epitome of ultra-luxury. The eleven-bedroom villa, which can host 30+ guests, sits on three acres and offers unparalleled accommodations, service, and views. The word spectacular doesn’t do Casa Familia justice.
Reasons to Stay
As we opened the wood gates and walked into Casa Familia, I had to pinch myself as I looked around in awe. The cream-colored exterior, wood accents, and bright flowers immediately make you feel like you are in the Mediterranean. Just beyond the wood doors is an outdoor living room that leads to a resort-style sparkling pool large enough to swim laps and overlooks a secluded beach.
Casa Familia’s indoor/outdoor living is a perfectly designed. We spent our days hanging by the pool and using the private staircase to access the secluded beach. We took advantage of a plethora of activities, such as surfing at La Lancha (a short paddle or walk away – this was all Gary), paddleboarding, swimming, walking along the beach, and sunbathing. On-site activities also include:
- a private gym with tropical views
- a spa with two private treatment rooms, a cold plunge, and a hot tub
- a media room to accommodate a large group
- pickleball/basketball courts
- multiple sitting areas, including a bar
- two cars with car seats, if needed
One of the things Gary loved about Casa Familia was that he could see the surf break from the lawn. This meant he could look at the swell and decide when it looked like fun to paddle out.
The staff at Casa Familia, including a chef, bartender, housekeeper, driver, and concierge, are available to make your every dream come true. You can even host a party, corporate event, or family friendly get-together. It is the perfect place in Punta Mita to accommodate large groups.
We had an incredible time during our stay and find Casa Familia to be one of the best places to stay in Punta Mita. It was like having a private boutique resort that I never wanted to leave. Everything was excellent, from the rooms to the grounds, to the food, and, of course, the wonderful staff.
My detailed blog post about Casa Familia provides additional information about why it was a dream vacation for us.
