If you are wondering what there is to do in Punta Mita, let me put your mind at ease. There are plenty of things to do in Punta Mita, Mexico. Punta Mita offers the best things to do on vacation, such as relaxing at a beach club, surfing, or playing golf. So much so that visitors buy luxury villas in Punta Mita to keep trying all the activities. Whether you are visiting for a long weekend or plan to take an extended stay, Punta Mita will keep you busy.

Punta Mita is an exclusive 1,500-acre gated community about forty minutes north of the Puerta Vallarta International Airport in the City of Punta de Mita. Once inside the gates, there are two five-star hotels, including The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort and the Four Seasons Punta Mita. In addition, the expansive complex has multimillion-dollar homes in over fifteen different residential communities. Some of these Punta Mita homes make terrific vacation rentals.

The Best Things to do in Punta Mita

Visit the Punta Mita Beach Clubs

One of the unique things to do is visit one of the five Punta Mita beach clubs. Yes, you read correctly. There are FIVE beach clubs in Punta Mita, each with a unique flair.

El Surf Club

El Surf Club has a chill vibe. There are multiple areas within open-air space, each with its own motif. Visitors can choose to sit in the covered patio restaurant area, the lounge section, or catch some rays on the beach. The laid-back atmosphere creates an inviting place to hang out during the day. But don’t get me wrong, there is five-star service no matter where you land at El Surf Club.

Located on the La Lancha surf break, El Surf Club is ideal for, you guessed it, surfers and adults. The surf break is well known, and when the swell is right, there are plenty of waves.

If you are staying in Punta Mita, I suggest you check out El Surf Club, even if it’s just for lunch or a drink.

Pacifico Beach Club

If you are looking for a more traditional beach club, the Pacifico Beach Club has your name written all over it. Situated on a calm swimming beach, Pacifico Beach Club is great for, well, everyone. There is a pool right off the beach, a full-service restaurant, and lounge chairs on the beach. There is an activity center on the beach, making water toys easily accessible. If you are traveling with kids, Pacifico has you covered with a designated kid’s area.

The beach in front of Pacifico Beach Club is one of the best beaches in Punta Mita. The calm, warm water is perfect for taking a dip. From Pacifico Beach Club, you get views of Banderas Bay and the famous “Tail of the Whale” ocean hole on the Pacifico golf course. So, you can check out this natural golf hole even if you are not a golfer.

Pacifico Beach Club also is home to Navi Spa, where two outdoor massage rooms are waiting for you. Pacifico Beach Club is casual, meaning you can play in the ocean one minute and get a massage the next.

Sufi Ocean Club

Situated between a golf course hole and the ocean, Sufi Ocean Club has beautiful views no matter where you look. Sufi has an upbeat vibe, so you might be bopping your head while visiting. The beach club overlooks Banderas Bay and the Punta Mita Pier. A few highlights include a delicious restaurant in Punta Mita, a large saltwater pool just off the beach, and daybeds. Guests can even go shopping in Punta Mita at the Isla Mita Boutique.

Sufi Ocean Club is in the sought-after community of Porta Fortuna, where you can find effortless luxury combined with fun in the sun.

Kapuri Beach Club

Reserved exclusively for Punta Mita Premier Club Members (and guests and renters), Kapuri Beach Club offers beachfront luxury.   If you are traveling with kids, KapuriBeach Club is calling your name. Located in Litbu Bay, the crystal-clear calm waters are perfect for enjoying a day at the club.

Kapuri Club offers something for everyone. There is a lazy river for the whole family to enjoy and separate beach clubs for kids and teens. If you are an active beachgoer, you should check out Punta Mita Ocean Sports, which offers a wide variety of ocean activities to keep you busy such as snorkeling off the coast of Punta Mita, surfing, and fishing. Or, if you want to enjoy a tranquil day, head to the peaceful Navi Spa for treatment.

Sea Breeze Beach Club

Sea Breeze Pool at the st. regis punta mita

The Sea Breeze Beach Club at The St. Regis Punta Mita is an upscale yet casual atmosphere with stunning ocean views. The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort overlooks Banderas Bay’s calm, warm waters. At Sea Breeze, you can hang out in the pool area with butler service or head down to the beach, where guests continue to be looked after by The St. Regis staff. I generally find myself at the beach in the morning, relaxing on a lounge chair, and in the pool with a cocktail in the afternoon. Margarita fans should try the spicy margarita. You cannot go wrong!

You can also walk the few steps to Mita Mary’s and enjoy the fresh flavors while you dip your toes in the sand. Keep reading for more details about Mita Mary’s.

Checking out any of these beach clubs must be on your list of fun things to do in Punta Mita!

Exploring Restaurants in Punta Mita

Going on a culinary adventure is a top thing to do in Punta Mita. Below is a sampling of some of the delicious restaurants in Punta Mita.

Sufi

The food is fantastic at Sufi and is a go-to spot for us! I had some dietary restrictions while visiting, and the chef was able to accommodate me without any issues. I highly recommend Sufi for dinner.

Mita Mary’s

A local favorite inside the gates of Punta Mita is Mita Mary’s. The causal beachfront restaurant serves food and handcrafted cocktails that are fresh and light. However, there is a secret reason to visit Mita Mary’s. The sunsets are extraordinary. Watching the sunset over Banderas Bay is the perfect way to top of the day. So, make sure you add Mita Mary’s to your list of the best things to do while visiting Punta Mita. You won’t regret it.

Beachfront BBQ

One of the most memorable restaurants in Punta Mita was the private beachfront BBQ at The St. Regis. Okay, while not exactly a restaurant, you have everything but a formal “restaurant.”

If you are looking for a romantic and splurge-worthy evening, this is it! The entire experience, from start to finish, was incredible. The food is expertly prepared on the grill right on the beach. The evening also comes with tasty appetizers and desserts. I promise you will not leave hungry. The St. Regis even sets up a place to relax and listen to the waves crash as you roast marshmallows over a bond fire. Give this a try!

Aramara

For those looking to mix it up and try a different type of cuisine, head over to Aramara at the Four Seasons Punta Mita for a culinary adventure. The flavors in the dishes are inspired by cooking techniques from Hong Kong, Thailand, and other Asian countries designed to bring out the flavors in the freshest local ingredients. Signature dishes include miso glazed pork belly steamed buns and Japanese yuzu cheesecake. Guests can also order a variety of sushi, meat, fish, and vegetable dishes.

There are several other restaurants in and around Punta Mita that make my best restaurant list.

Indulge in a Spa Treatment

Punta Mita is where people come to relax, so one of the best things to do in Punta Mita is head to the spa. There are multiple places throughout Punta Mita where you can find peace and tranquility.

Navi Spa

Punta Mita’s own spa is called Navi Spa and is located at several beach clubs. We were lucky enough to experience a massage at Pacifico Beach Club. The traditional massages are just what you need after a day of playing in the ocean. Life can be rough!

Navi Spa at Pacifico Beach Club has two outdoor massage rooms, allowing the breeze to come through and cool the room during your massage. Navi Spa is very casual, which means guests come in from the beach to relax their muscles before heading back out to lay in the sun or play in the ocean.

What Navi Spa at Pacifico Beach Club lacks in terms of spa facilities, it makes up for in the quality of the spa treatment. Our massages were very relaxing. The only thing spa goers need to know in advance is that the open-air treatment rooms are near the kids club.

Remède Spa

For those looking for the full spa experience, head to Remède  Spa at The St. Regis Punta Mita, where indulgence is top of mind. From the moment you walk in, you are treated to five-star service.   Remède Spa is thoughtfully designed so guests can take advantage of the open-air pavilions, lush open corridors connecting the individual treatment spaces, and the natural beauty of Punta Mita.

On my last visit to Remède  Spa, we had the 90-minute indulgent couple’s massage. And let me say, sign me up again! The fusion of Lomi Lomi and Swedish massage techniques combined with warm white sandalwood oil melts your muscles and sets your mind at ease. After the indulgent couple’s massage, guests are given sparkling wine to enhance the level of romance.

Remède  Spa also offers more traditional massage and facial treatments. While I have not had facial treatments at Remede Spa, I know people who have raved about the experience.

Pro Tip:

There is a beautiful couple’s pavilion that would be a terrific place for a massage in the cooler months.

In-home Spa Treatments

One of the benefits of renting a Punta Mita vacation home is the ability to bring massage therapists to you. Owners and renters can work with the Punta Mita concierge service to arrange an at-home massage. You don’t even have to go anywhere for your massage. How awesome is that!

Surfing in Punta Mita

An extremely popular activity and thing to do in Punta Mita is surfing. There are several local surf breaks. However, most of them are not accessible by land. Guests generally need to rent a boat to get to each of the breaks unless they are accompanied by an owner in one of the communities.

There are a couple of exceptions. Off the Sea Breeze Beach Club at The St. Regis is Monuments, a long slow break. I am a complete novice when it comes to surfing, and with the help of my surf instructor from Punta Mita Adventures, I was able to catch several waves while surfing Monuments. Since I have a fear of the ocean, particularly of a surfboard crashing into me, I was surprised when I could relax and have fun while surfing in Punta Mita.

Guests can also access La Lancha at El Surf Club.   The surf break is well known, and when the swell is right, there are plenty of waves to go around.

If you are looking to surf La Bahia (also known as the Cove) or El Faro, you need to hire a boat or surf taxi for a couple of hours. Depending on where you are staying, the boat can pick you up on the beach, or you can head into Punta de Mita to catch a boat.

Pro Tip:

The ocean can be rocky, so I suggest you wear ocean booties, especially if you try to walk to some of the breaks that are better accessed by boat. On one of our visits, my husband forgot to wear booties and picked thorns out of his feet for a month.

Golfing in Punta Mita

A popular activity and one of the highly rated things to do in Punta Mita is to play a round of golf. Punta Mita has two stunning Jack Nicklaus Signature golf courses set in a lush tropical oasis. The Bahia course, where you can test your skills, and the Pacifico Golf Course, where you play the famous “Tail of the Whale” hole. The Tail of the Whale is unique because the hole is on a separate island. At high tide, you need an amphibious vehicle to reach the hole.

Punta Mita guests can sign up for lessons, participate in the golf clinic, or enjoy the clubhouse. The Punta Mita golf courses are exclusively for visitors and owners staying within the gates of Punta Mita and their guests.

Taco and Bike Tour in Punta Mita

One of the more unique things to do in Punta Mita is to sign up for the Taco and Bike Tour. Ride along the beautiful trails and paths that traverse the Punta Mita peninsula, where you can see the true splendor of Punta Mita’s lush landscape. During your two and a half to three hour bike tour, guests will stop at four of the Punta Mita beach clubs and sample the top picks of food from each club. Biking from beach club to beach club is a terrific way to get to know your way around Punta Mita. Plus, you can snap a couple of pictures of the most Instagramable spots in Punta Mita.

A great blog post! Although I have not had the pleasure to meet Michelle in person, we have very good communication via e mail. Working with her in two visits to the “Jewel of the Crown” in the Riviera Nayarit, Punta Mita, has been great.
The activites she has done per my recommendation and she has enjoyed them very, that I noticed in her post.
It will be a pleasure to continue our colaboration!
